I have created this cute layout of my mom’s birthday that just happened recently. I used the Pic Tap Go app to edit my photos and I cropped them to 4×4 photos just using the cropping tool on my iPhone. I printed my photos on my Canon Pixma using the Canon print app, by choosing the borderd option to print my photos and then I got to work creating the layout. I used the Sangria paper pack from Close To My Heart, along with the Coral Me Crazy Dazzlerz paint from the Spiegel Moms Scraps store along with screen art that I have had forever to create my layout. I dug in my stash of embellishments to embellish my layout and even managed to change the color of the heart that I wanted to use using a bit of gesso and the Coral Me Crazy Dazzlerz. Let’s not forget the sequins! Ohhhh how I love sequins and Jody has some gorgeous sequin mixes in the shop!
I have created a process video for you all to see how this layout came together.
Valentines day is fast approaching but I like to think of the whole month of February as Love month and if you have been following me for a while you know that I fell in love with mixed media last year and that I have been learning mixed media techniques for about a year now. I was excited to be a part of this amazing group of ladies to bring you all mixed media techniques and this blog hop is going to bring you a ton of inspiration for love month!
The canvas size for these projects is 6×8 and I think that I am definitelly going to make another canvas soon but include one of my Julie Nutting stamps. I would love to create a beatuiful scene that I can then hang up on my wall!
I created the first one and took tons of picutres and I enjoyed making it so much that I made another one and recorded the process. What I love about completing mixed media projects like this is that I can use all the materials that make me really happy, like stencils and texture paste. My original plan was going to use some of the Dazzlerz texture paste from Shimmerz Paints but I knew that I wouldnt get the product in time so now I am just saving my money so that I can place one large order with them! (I have a wonderful little surprise for you, if you place an order for some of these beautiful Shimmerz products and you mention my name, Beth, in the Instructions to Merchant Section at checkout you will receive a free Inklingz or Creameez product)!
My first step was to cover my canvas with this gorgeous Tim Holtz tissue wrap, using multi medium matte. I brushed it on the canvas a little bit at a time so that I wouldn’t end up with any wrinkles as I was adhering it to the canvas. Then I added a layer of matte medium on the top as well, I used a foam brush to apply the matte medium.
I put a layer of white gesso over the top of the tisssue paper after I dried it with my heat gun. Next I painted the whole canvas with Magenta Acrylic paint and took a baby wipe to remove most of the paint and then added some back on the sides to give it a border.
After I dried the Magenta paint I added some Teal paint to the canvas and removed that with a baby wipe as well. I forgot to mention that I mixed the Magenta paint and the Teal paint with some Glazing fluid. I am not sure exactly what Glazing fluid does but I do know that my acrylic paint doesn’t dry as fast when I mix it together, this is why I am able to wipe away the paint with a baby wipe otherwise the paint would have been dry already.
This is what the final product looked like after all that paint, isn’t it lovely? Now you know I couldn’t just leave it like this so i grabbed a Heidi Swapp heart stencil that I have and my beautiful Shimmerz Paints and got to work. I painted the hearts the lighter pink that I have first and it was super late but the shimmer was stunning so I decided to paint over the hearts with the magenta Shimmerz paint that I have and all I can say is that the photos do not give it justice.
Then I grabbed another Heidi Swapp stencil and the gold texture paste that I have to add some more dimension and texture to the canvas.
After all that I called this canvas done and all I have to do is add my embellishments. I haven’t decided if I am going to add a sentiment to it or not but for now I am very happy with it. I found this awesome slate hearts at the Target dollar spot and I used the Tim Holtz Ideaology charms that I got from Michaels I am going to add one of these babies to my Midori notebook as well!
Here are some close up shots of the canvas.
Some products I just couldn’t find to list for you but that is the beauty of mixed media you can make whatever you want and use whatever products you want. Here is the video for the other canvas that I created.
Here is the list to all the other beautiful projects that were created by these wonderful ladies.
