Well I finally gave it a try and tried the smooshing technique with some of my distress inks and I must say that I really enjoyed this technique. I think my plastic was a little to large which is why I had some really big splotches but I am going to be on the look out for a smaller piece of plastic! I have also challenged myself to get creative every day this month which means that you will be hearing/seeing a lot of me this month.
I even cut my own doilies with my Cricut Explore and I dug into my washi tape stash along with some old wood veneers, sequins and puffy stickers. I grabbed all these old items as part of a stash busting challenge that I am participating in. I don’t have a ton of stash to go through but I do have a hard time getting my stuff out to use on a regular basis.
I am so excited that this layout is done because I created this background a few days ago and I have been trying to get back into my craft room for the longest time to finish this layout.
I used cracked pistaschio, mermaid lagoon and abandoned coral for my smooshing inks and I didn’t smoosh on my cardstock until after I had used some gesso on my white daisy cardstock. The white daisy cardstock holds up really well with mixed media techniques and I had minimal warping on my paper. I layered the photo with some scraps that I had laying around and some vellum. I used my sorbet cardstock and champagne cardstock to create that heart doily with my Cricut. I tried to find some old Close To My Heart B&T paper but the patterns were throwing off the smooshing technique so I mounted it on some outdoor denim cardstock from Close To My Heart.
Here are some close up shots of all the embellishments that I added to my layout which is way over the top for me.
